Jamie Lyons brings to Strength and Strategies Counselling Services over 20 years of professional counselling experience. Graduating from the University of Queensland in 2001, Jamie has been working and developing his skills in welfare and counselling through day-to-day client services and ongoing professional development ever since.
Jamie began as a Social Worker with foster children in emergency accommodation settings. Following this, he worked in Child protection as a child safety officer in Inala and Gympie. From the very beginning of his career Jamie has actively honed his skills of discernment to see the root causes behind the difficulties his clients face in order to bring about the best possible outcomes.
In early 2006 he began working for Uniting Care Queensland in family intervention – a role he developed for 7 years as an increasingly sought-after family counsellor. With the same company he also worked as a Family and Relationship Counsellor for another 9 years. Again, Jamie brought his considerable real world and academic experience into the counselling room to meet clients where they were at as he simultaneously journeyed with them towards where they wanted to be.
The expertise Jamie brings to Strength and Strategies now sees him continuing to see clients as individuals, couples and family units, identifying the issues that matter the most and systematically working towards solutions.
Jamie’s extensive training sees him credentialled in numerous parenting programs including 123 magic, PPP and Circle of Security. Additionally, he is trained in Attachment, Trauma and Relationship Counselling and actively practises with a selection of modalities including Gottman Relationship Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy and Restoration Therapy.
At Strength and Strategies Counselling Services, Jamie continues into his third decade of counselling, working with a diversity of people from the young to the old, journeying with them towards solutions for the issues that matter to them. He radiates a warm and non-judgemental ambiance as he recognises his clients are indeed the best qualified to be deemed the experts in their own lives. In the counselling environment Jamie supports and facilitate growth as people discover how to access the strength and personal resources that are already within them.
